Range Rules

Rockcut Shooting Club Rifle and Handgun Range Rules

WHENEVER TWO OR MORE CLUB MEMBERS USE THESE FACILITIES AT THE SAME TIME, ONE OF THEM MUST ASSUME THE RESPONSIBILITY AS RANGE OFFICER AND ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING RULES BY ALL SHOOTING MEMBERS.

  1. Junior members must be accompanied by their parent or guardian at all times.
  2. No smoking on any range or in the immediate range vicinity.
  3. Appropriate Red flags will be flown while the range is active, Green flag (cease-fire) will be flown before proceeding down range.
  4. The Range Officer must be obeyed at all times while on the range.
  5. Proper vision and hearing protection are mandatory.
  6. Firearms must be unloaded with actions open at all times when not in use.
  7. All equipment needed by a shooter must be taken with them onto the range.  At no time during the course of fire will anyone be allowed to enter or leave the range except by permission of the Range Officer.
  8. No person will be allowed in front of the firing line during a course of fire without the permission of the Range Officer and then only after all necessary precautions have been observed.
  9. In the event of a jam or misfire, the shooter must keep his gun pointed directly towards the target for at least 60 seconds and notify the Range Officer.
  10. Any shooter discovering their gun to be defective during the course of fire must inform the Range Officer immediately.
  11. Anyone may call a cease-fire if he observes an unsafe condition.
  12. Black powder shooters may only bring sufficient powder for the days shooting. Large containers and glass containers are prohibited.  Spilled powder must be cleaned up immediately.
  13. Sixty seconds after a black powder misfire or hangfire request permission to reprime.  A subsequent misfire on the same load will deem the gun to be defective and the Range Officer will order it to be removed from the range.
  14. When a shooter has finished firing he will remain behind his designated area.
  15. Conversation will be kept to minimum while shooting is in progress.
  16. Handguns must be carried muzzle down with the slide open and magazines out or with the cylinder in an open position so that all can see without effort that the gun is unloaded and safe.
  17. The Range Officer will ensure an entry is made in the Range Log, recording the date, time, Range Officer(s) and shooters name or membership number.
  18. The range Officer will ensure that all persons using the range leave the range in a tidy condition at the end of shooting.
  19. Any unusual incidents or any injury must be reported to the Executive in writing as soon as possible.

CLUB & SHOTGUN RANGE RULES

  1. Firearms must be unloaded with actions open at all times when not in use.
  2. New shooters must show a competence of Firearms Handling.
  3. Proper vision and hearing protection are mandatory.
  4. Target loads of 7 ½ or smaller only. Field loads are prohibited.
  5. Shooters – Visitors must remain aware of each others movements around ranges.
  6. Ensure that Range Open or Closed sign is set to Range in use when Range is active.
  7. Raise the red flag on the range when the range is active.
  8. Never assume area beyond firing range is clear.  MAKE SURE!
  9. All shooters – visitors must register upon arrival.
  10. 10 Commandments of firearms Safety must be strictly adhered to.
  11. If you are unsure, ASK. Range Officers are available to help.
  12. Safety is EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY!!!!
